Shoves off-route

The 'Shoves' (47701 - 47717) were synonymous with Scotland throughout the 80's, mainly working on the push-pull services from Glasgow Queen Street - Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street - Aberdeen.

They could also be found on other services within Scotland such as the Carstairs portions, Dundees, trips up the middle to Inverness from Edinburgh/ Glasgow and over the top from Aberdeen - Inverness.

However, they did from time to time make it into England on passenger services, even as far as the Western region. Below is a list of such known workings prior to when they started to be allocated south of the border.
This list is upto March 1989 when the first 47/7's moved away from Scotland.

Note: I came up with the idea for this page after someone asked about Shove workings outside of Scotland on The Real Class 47 group on Facebook and so I went through all the gen on site in the archives pages to come up with this list.

However a big credit must go to "Parrot" who I have been told published a similar article called "Beyond the Wall" from which a fair bit of the gen here was sent to me.
